Smart drinking includes the notion of responsibility to and respect for the health, wellbeing and safety of yourself and others – not just in the moment, but in the future.
Smart drinking varies by individual, depending on gender, size, etc., and can vary for individuals from day to day, depending on how much sleep they’ve had, whether they’ve eaten, if they’ve taken any medication and other factors. In general, government recommendations on moderate consumption, which vary from country to country, are helpful guidelines for smart drinking.
The majority of people who drink, practice smart and responsible behavior. If you have questions about what a smart and responsible level of drinking is for you, talk with your doctor or health professional.
We take great pride in brewing our quality beers and want them to be enjoyed responsibly by individuals of legal drinking age. We also know that it is not in the long-term interests of our company for consumers to misuse our beers. We would rather that consumers enjoy our products responsibly on a more frequent basis than misuse them on any occasion.
We oppose drink driving, which is 100 percent preventable. We support strong enforcement of Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) restrictions to help prevent drunk driving. We believe that proper enforcement is the key to tackling this issue, whatever the specific level of restriction, which varies from country to country. We also support programs that help educate bar and wait staff on how to serve and sell responsibly, as well as programs that encourage consumers to designate a driver before the evening begins to ensure a safe ride home.
We support government initiatives that create a legal drinking/purchase age and feel that it is important for public authorities to strive for strong implementation.
As a responsible brewer, we want to ensure that our communications with consumers are executed in a manner that does not encourage, nor condone irresponsible drinking. Our global Responsible Marketing and Communications Code helps ensure that our communications are responsible and provides a consistent standard around the world. In some markets, the Code goes well beyond local requirements; in others, the Code is supplemented by additional local rules, which are always respected.
